This project repositioned Rolland, a 140-year-old Canadian paper mill, as a clean materials company amid industry decline. By reframing its operations—100% water recycling, 93% biogas energy use, and large-scale conversion of paper waste into FDA-certified material—the company was relaunched as Sustana.
The transformation shifted Sustana from paper supplier to ingredient brand and strategic partner, differentiated it in the market, expanded its opportunity beyond paper into the broader clean materials sector, and supported growth through the acquisition of a major recycling company.
